Make a stand for good science

An opinion article on the ABC News web site caught my attention today.
I think it worthy of a read by anyone who has ever engaged in a discussion with a scientist or as a scientist.
I would suggest that everyone read it, but I fear it would be lost on the majority of the population. For they are the ones that this article is critical of.
“Yet some people will attempt to hijack science for political or ideological reasons and in doing so besmirch science’s public image. They are good at doing this, and they often exert a disproportionate influence on policy. Some will simply argue that the Earth is flat because “it looks flat”.”

UPDATE
Please note the comments at the end of the article. They are a humorous though painful read. In their attempts to disprove the authors point, they in fact are solidifying it. Ahh the irony.
