Have you seen this man?
Oct 3, 07:30 AM
Male, mid 20’s, Caucasian, brown hair, average height. Last seen wearing blue jeans and a t-shirt.
I look like a lot of other people.
This is the conclusion I have come to over the last few years. Not just because I fit the description of 75% of wanted suspects, but because people tell me so.
People I have just been introduced to will often remark
“You remind me of….”
“You look just like…”
“I remember your face, I think we’ve met before.”
No, we haven’t.
I’ve had strangers approach me and start talking to me as if we had hung out before. My confused expression soon tipped them off that something wasn’t quite right and prompted a question like “You’re Paul’s cousin right?”.
No, I’m not.
When I was working at an amusement park in my late teens, there was a colleague who would always incorrectly call me Chris. She would realise her mistake a moment after, yet she continued to do it because I looked just like a friend of hers named….believe it or not… Chris. I remember trying to explain to her that this wasn’t uncommon and attempted to prove it to her. When the next two kids approached the ticket booth I asked them if I looked like anyone they knew. Without hesitation they said I looked just like their uncle Mike and he was cool.
No, you can’t get a free go on the trampolines.
So what is it about my face? Am I just completely average looking? Are my looks somehow a subtle combination of a variety of common features resulting in a familiarity when seen at a superficial glance? Or do my looks offer some form of evolutionary advancement, providing some sort of benefit in today’s society resulting in an exponential spread of similar looking people?
And where are all these people that look like me? I want to know. I want to see them and look at them and scoff in their beautiful faces. I’ve never seen one though, save my father. Where do they hang out? What are they doing?? Are they running some sort of life swapping regime, where they change in and out of various jobs, marriages, friendship groups all completely unnoticed!? Surely they would want someone like me involved? I’ve got a job…and stuff.
No. I guess they wouldn’t
