Space Fun(d)

Few topics have the ability to make me feel like a giddy little boy wishing the man in the ice-cream truck would hurry up and give me that triple-choc, double-cone, soft-serve…sigh…I miss those days *. But commercial space travel is one of them.

I have always had a fascination with space, and the child (or perhaps the omniscient, god-like being) in me hopes that one day I will be able to take a trip and look down on the earth from above.

Sir Richard Branson became an instant idol for me when he decided to throw some of his millions towards a commercial space travel. A couple of setbacks and an fatal explosion later Virgin Galactic are well on their way to making sub-orbital flights a reality.

The news this week is that another company, XCOR Aerospace, announced their plans to start selling tickets for the ultimate thrill ride. At the low low price of $95,000 it’s MADNESS! Everything MUST GO. In fact XCOR’s offer is actually less than half that of Virgin’s. So what’s the difference? Sexiness. Space has got bucket loads of it Richard Branson knows how to capture it while XCOR sounds like its run by a couple of nerds.

Watch the promotional videos and see for yourself:

The reality is I hang out with nerds every day and I wouldn’t pay $100,000 to change that, thus despite the alure of Virgin, XCOR would get my money………..if I had it.

Coincidentally the Send the Titman into space fund is now accepting donations.
