Deep Cove(r)

Today was my first operation for the Summer.
Mission: Deep Cove
Task: Climb Quarry Rock
Alias: Matt – An Australian on a working visa in Canada
A charming, young lady at work informed me of a nice, short hike called Quarry Rock located in Deep Cove. Wanting to test my hiking skills before the olds arrive in a few weeks (slightly concerned at the possibility of them being fitter than I am) I decided to check it out. I had visited Deep Cove once before to purchase an ill-fated bike, but hadn’t really stuck around to explore. So this time was to be different.
The place had a very South-West Western Australia vibe to it, chilled atmosphere, a couple of funky cafes and a lot of people with nothing better to do than sit and enjoy the sun.
I grabbed an overpriced sandwich and muffin from one of the cafes and hit the trail. The forest was beautiful, giant trees, running streams and BERRIES, wild edible berries. Walking in a forest where 98% of things WONT kill you was certainly a novelty.
The walk up took about 35min at a medium pace and the end result was pretty sweet. Choosing to go in the middle of the day was probably my only regret, I imagine this place would look breathtaking at sunset/sunrise.
Forests, mountains and the ocean all in one scene. I do love this area. Mission Accomplished.
